Viva Miches by Wyndham, A Trademark All Inclusive

Viva Miches by Wyndham opened in December 2024 as the first of the new wave of Miches all-inclusives, and it is the most affordable of the big Costa Esmeralda resorts. Viva Resorts, the Italian-Dominican group behind Viva Dominicus in Bayahibe, opened it with about 535 to 538 rooms, and a second phase is planned to take it to around 750.

It sits on Carlyle Cove, between Miches town and Playa Esmeralda, which is a few minutes' drive east. Rooms come in several categories, from garden and ocean views up to splash rooms with plunge pools and oceanfront rooms. At opening there were five restaurants plus bars, pools and the entertainment program Viva is known for.

The style is mid-market and relaxed rather than luxury. Expect a lively, family-friendly atmosphere, buffet-centered dining with some à la carte options and good value for the price. Travelers who know Viva's other resorts will recognize the format. Those coming from upscale brands may find the food and finishes simpler than at Zemi Miches or Secrets Playa Esmeralda, but the beach and setting are just as good.

The beach out front is quieter and greener than Playa Esmeralda, with vegetation close to the sand. Water is usually calm to moderate, with no reef, and sargassum is generally much lighter than in Punta Cana because the coast faces north.

Trade-offs: the airport is about 90 minutes away, the resort was still finishing its first phase in its early months, and there is little to walk to outside the gates. The flip side is easy access to the town for a taste of local life, and short trips to Montaña Redonda and Playa Limón.

Best for: families and groups on a budget who want the Miches scenery without luxury prices. Not for: travelers expecting high-end dining or a polished, quiet luxury feel.
