Montaña Redonda
A round hilltop with 360-degree views over the lagoons, Samaná Bay and the coast, plus the famous swings
About This Activity
Montaña Redonda ("round mountain") is the most popular day trip on the Miches coast and one of the most photographed viewpoints in the country. It is a steep, isolated hill of around 300 meters between the coast highway and the Lagunas Redonda y Limón reserve, and from the top you get a full 360-degree view: Laguna Redonda and Laguna Limón below, the long beaches of the Costa Esmeralda, Samaná Bay and, on clear days, the Samaná peninsula across the water.
The swings are what made it famous on social media. Rope swings hang off the edge of the summit with the lagoons behind you, and there are also hammocks, benches, ziplines and a photo service for people who want professional shots. From January to March you may spot humpback whales out in the bay; bring binoculars.
Getting up: the road to the top is narrow and steep with switchbacks and some drop-offs. You can drive a 4x4 yourself, but most visitors leave their car at the bottom and take the shared 4x4 trucks that run up and down; the ride takes about 10 minutes. Regular cars reach the base, though the last stretch gets rough after rain.
Costs (approximate, 2025 to 2026, check on arrival): entrance has been reported anywhere from about $2 to $7 per person, plus about $2 for parking, the 4x4 shuttle at roughly $20 for a group of up to four, and ziplines around $20 each. Cash is the safest way to pay. There is a restaurant at the top serving Dominican food and breakfast, open roughly 8am to 6pm.
From Punta Cana, organized tours run about 4.5 hours with hotel pickup, the 4x4 ride and lunch, from around $72 per person in 2026. From the Costa Esmeralda resorts it is a short drive, so a taxi or resort excursion is easier.
Tips: go early, before the clouds build in the afternoon and before the tour groups arrive. Wear shoes with grip, bring a light layer because it is windy at the top, and allow a couple of hours, since the view changes as the clouds move. Combine it with Playa Limón on the way back.
Best for: photographers, couples, families with kids old enough for the swings, and anyone on a Miches day trip from Uvero Alto or Bávaro. Not for: travelers with a strong fear of heights or very limited mobility.
