Sunscape Dominicus La Romana

A big, family-focused Hyatt all-inclusive on Playa Dominicus, opened under the Sunscape name in 2023

Sunscape Dominicus La Romana

About Sunscape Dominicus La Romana

Sunscape Dominicus La Romana is the largest resort on Playa Dominicus, with 854 rooms, and one of the newest names on the coast. Hyatt's Inclusive Collection opened it under the Sunscape brand in December 2023, after a deal with the Spanish group Be Live Hotels, which had run the property before. It is part of World of Hyatt, so Hyatt loyalty members can earn and redeem points here.

Sunscape is Hyatt's family-focused, mid-range all-inclusive brand, and the resort is set up for it. Rooms range from standard rooms to junior suites and family villas, some with connecting doors. The Explorer's Club covers kids from 3 to 12, and the Core Zone club is for teens. There are 11 places to eat and drink, including a buffet, a grill, a food truck and Tierra à la carte, plus La Cala, an adults-only steakhouse on the pier with sunset views that costs extra. Food is available 24 hours.

The beach area has separate family and adults-only sections, and the Sun Club upgrade adds a private lounge, concierge check-in and a reserved beach zone. The water is classic Dominicus: calm, clear and shallow near shore, good for kids. Sargassum is less frequent than on the Punta Cana coast, but heavy years can bring some between late spring and early autumn.

Because it is big and family-oriented, it gets lively at pools and the buffet, especially during school holidays. Couples wanting peace would be happier at Catalonia Royal La Romana next door or Secrets La Romana. Parts of the resort predate the rebrand, so expect a mix of refreshed and older areas.

Location: the resort is toward the south-eastern end of the Dominicus strip, closest to the national park and a few minutes by taxi from the village and its pier for Isla Saona trips. La Romana International Airport is about 25 minutes away, and Punta Cana International about an hour or a bit more.

Best for: families with kids and teens, groups, and Hyatt loyalty members looking for value. Not for: travelers wanting a small, quiet or design-led hotel. Compare its rates with Dreams La Romana, Hyatt's other family resort in the area, which has a water park.
