CEDIMAT

CEDIMAT (Centros de Diagnóstico y Medicina Avanzada y de Conferencias Médicas y Telemedicina) is one of the country's leading private centers for advanced diagnostics, cardiology and specialist care. It is part of the Plaza de la Salud medical complex in Ensanche La Fe, next to the Hospital General de la Plaza de la Salud, about 20 minutes by taxi from the Zona Colonial in normal traffic.

Its strengths are cardiovascular and diagnostic. Services listed on its official site include adult and pediatric cardiology, hemodynamics (catheterization), a chest pain unit and stroke care running 24 hours, along with intensive care, a blood bank, a clinical laboratory and diagnostic imaging. Specialist clinics cover neurology and neurosurgery, hemato-oncology, gastroenterology, women's health, bariatric and general surgery, ENT and ophthalmic surgery. Emergency care is available around the clock.

For travelers: CEDIMAT has an international unit. The Swiss embassy's December 2025 doctors' list gives the main number +1 809-565-9989 with the international department on extension 146, and notes that many CEDIMAT specialists speak English and accept local and international insurance. When to use it: chest pain, suspected stroke, complex diagnostics or specialist consultations during a Santo Domingo stay. Because it sits on the same campus as the Hospital General de la Plaza de la Salud, a large teaching hospital, patients who need inpatient care beyond CEDIMAT's specialties can be referred within the complex. Bring your passport, insurance card and a list of any medications you take. For general emergencies near the center of the city, Hospiten Santo Domingo is the other main private option. From Boca Chica and Juan Dolio, allow 40 minutes to over an hour.
