La Terrasse
Long-running French restaurant on the seafront of the Pueblo de los Pescadores in Las Terrenas
About La Terrasse
La Terrasse is one of the oldest and best-known restaurants in Las Terrenas, a French-style dining room on the seafront of the Pueblo de los Pescadores, the old fishermen's village turned restaurant row near the river mouth. For many regulars, a dinner here, with the sound of the sea a few meters away, is part of every trip to town.
The menu leans classic French with a Caribbean supply chain. The dishes people mention most are the steak au poivre, the octopus and the lobster ravioli, alongside fresh fish of the day and other seafood. Some reviewers also rate the pizza. The setting is the other half of the appeal: an open-air terrace over the water, low lighting and a relaxed but grown-up feel.
Reviews are good but not unanimous. On Tripadvisor it averaged around 4 out of 5 in 2026 from more than 650 reviews, with atmosphere scoring highest and value lowest, and recent reviews from mid-2026 were mostly positive. A minority of diners found the food uneven or the service cool. Service can also slow down on busy nights, so it is not the place for a quick dinner.
Prices are higher than at the simpler spots nearby. One 2026 diner noted the cheapest main course at around 850 Dominican pesos before tax, and remember that Dominican restaurant bills add 18% ITBIS (sales tax) plus a 10% service charge, so the total is about 28% above menu prices. Expect a noticeably bigger bill than at the casual places nearby. Many places in town accept cards, but carry some cash for tips.
Reservations are a good idea for sunset tables, especially on weekends and in high season (December to April and Easter week). The Pueblo de los Pescadores is walkable from central Las Terrenas and Playa Las Ballenas, and an easy taxi ride from Playa Bonita and Cosón.
Best for: couples, special-occasion dinners, seafood lovers and fans of French bistro classics. Not ideal for: budget travelers, families with restless young kids, or diners who want fast service. If it is full, the rest of the Pueblo de los Pescadores offers plenty of alternatives within a few steps, and El Lugar is a short taxi ride away.
