Bahia Principe Escape Samana

Bahia Principe Escape Samana is the adults-only (18+) all-inclusive on the bay side of the peninsula, east of Santa Bárbara de Samaná on the road toward Las Galeras. It was previously sold as Bahia Principe Grand Samana and, before that, Luxury Samana, so you will see those names in older reviews. Under the brand's 2026 reorganization, adults-only properties carry the "Escape" name.

The setting is the reason to book. The hotel sits on a hillside overlooking Samaná Bay, with views across to Cayo Levantado, which is roughly 2 km offshore. It is a much smaller property than its sister resort at El Portillo, with about 140 rooms according to tour operator listings, and the atmosphere is quieter and more romantic. Sea-view rooms of around 36 square meters with balconies or terraces are a standard category.

Because it faces the bay rather than the open Atlantic, the water nearby is generally calmer than on the north coast beaches. Listings describe direct access to the shore from the hotel, but the beachfront here is small compared with the long sands of Playa Rincón or Playa Cosón, so think of it as a view-and-pool resort with beach trips on the side.

The location is excellent for whale season. From mid-January to the end of March, whale-watching boats leave from the Samaná waterfront a short drive away, and humpbacks are sometimes visible from the bay itself. Cayo Levantado, the Los Haitises boat tour and Las Galeras are all easy day trips. Samaná El Catey airport (AZS) is roughly 45 minutes to an hour by car.

Since March 2026, Bahia Principe properties take part in World of Hyatt, so Hyatt members can earn and redeem points. Room rates vary a lot by season; whale season and Christmas are the most expensive periods.

Best for: couples, honeymooners and adult travelers who want views, quiet and easy access to whales and Cayo Levantado. Not ideal for: families (no under-18s), travelers who want a long beach outside their door, or anyone who wants to walk to town.
