Golf in Punta Cana

About This Activity

Punta Cana is one of the most serious golf destinations in the Caribbean, with multiple courses that rank in the top 100 globally and several of the highest-ranked courses in the entire region. Three properties anchor the scene. Punta Espada Golf Club at Cap Cana is a Jack Nicklaus signature course consistently ranked the #1 course in the Caribbean by GolfWeek and #35 in the world by Golf Digest. Eight holes play directly on or over the Caribbean Sea, the conditioning is exceptional, and the course is the kind of experience golfers travel internationally to play. Corales Golf Course at Puntacana Resort & Club is a Tom Fazio design that opened in 2010 and has hosted the PGA Tour's Corales Puntacana Championship since 2018; six oceanside holes and the dramatic 18th anchor the course's reputation. La Cana Golf Club, also at Puntacana Resort & Club, is a 27-hole P.B. Dye design with 14 holes featuring Caribbean Sea views; Golf Magazine has compared it favorably to Pebble Beach and named it among the top courses in the Caribbean.

Beyond these three flagships, additional courses include Hard Rock Golf Club at Cana Bay (Jack Nicklaus design at Hard Rock Hotel & Casino), Cocotal Golf Club (a P.B. Dye design at the Cocotal residential community, accessible to Iberostar guests and others), and Iberostate Bávaro Golf Club at the Iberostar properties.

Greens fees vary widely by course tier. Punta Espada runs roughly $300 to $450 for non-residents depending on season and tee time. Corales runs $250 to $400. La Cana runs $180 to $280. Hard Rock Golf is around $150 to $250. Most courses offer twilight rates (typically after 1 PM) at 30 to 50% off morning rates.

Most luxury resorts in Cap Cana and the Puntacana Resort area offer golf-and-stay packages that bundle rounds at multiple courses with accommodations. For golfers planning a trip around golf, these packages can be meaningfully better value than booking rounds independently.

Club rentals are available at all major courses. Premium brands (Titleist, Callaway, TaylorMade) typically run $50 to $100 per round including premium balls. Caddies and forecaddies are available at most courses; tipping $50 to $100 per caddie is standard for full-round service.

Who it's best for: serious golfers willing to plan a trip around golf, travelers who want to play one or two memorable rounds during a beach vacation, golf groups wanting a destination trip, and anyone willing to stay in Cap Cana or at Puntacana Resort & Club to access the flagship courses easily. Who it's not: casual once-a-year golfers (the green fees are real), travelers on tight budgets, and anyone uninterested in golf-as-vacation. Best time to play: November through April for the best weather and conditions; summer rounds are still playable but heat and humidity are real factors. Pace of play: most courses run 4.5 to 5.5 hours for 18 holes, slightly longer than typical US rounds.
