Waterfront Playa Alicia
A cliffside restaurant on Playa Alicia that is Sosúa's favorite place to watch the sunset
About Waterfront Playa Alicia
Waterfront Playa Alicia is a seaside restaurant at the edge of Playa Alicia, in the El Batey side of Sosúa. Its main asset is the view: tables look straight out over the water toward the west, and at sunset the whole terrace turns toward the sea. For many visitors and expats, this is the default answer to the question of where to have a sunset dinner in Sosúa.
The menu is broad and international, with a seafood focus. Diners regularly mention the octopus, paella, fresh fish and ribs, plus cocktails at sunset. Prices are generally described as reasonable for the setting, sitting in the mid-range for Sosúa rather than budget or fine dining. It is the kind of place where a drink at sunset can easily become dinner.
It has a strong rating across platforms, with thousands of Google reviews, but it is also very popular, and that shows on busy nights. A February 2026 review described a very long wait and poor service, while many others praise the food and drinks. Our advice: arrive around 6pm to get a table by the water and order before the sunset rush, and be patient on weekend evenings, when it fills up.
Hours are not consistently published online, so call ahead to confirm opening times and to book for sunset, especially in high season from December to April.
Getting there: it is at the end of Calle Dr. Rosen, on Playa Alicia. From most hotels in El Batey it is an easy walk, which is the best option because parking nearby is very limited. Guests at Casa Marina Sosúa are next door. From Cabarete it is about 20 minutes by taxi.
During the day, it is also a convenient spot for lunch or a cold drink after a swim at Playa Alicia, since the beach itself has few services.
Who it is best for: couples, sunset seekers, small groups and anyone staying in Sosúa who wants a reliable dinner with a view. Who it is not for: diners in a hurry on busy nights, or travelers looking for traditional Dominican food at local prices; for that, look for a comedor in Los Charamicos.
