La Casita de Papi

Cabarete's best-known seafood spot on the sand, famous for its garlicky prawns

La Casita de Papi

About La Casita de Papi

La Casita de Papi is the Cabarete restaurant most people have heard of before they arrive. It sits right on Cabarete Beach, with tables on the sand under lights at night and the sound of the waves a few meters away. The format is simple: fresh seafood, cooked in rich, buttery, garlicky sauces, served in a casual, lively setting.

The dish that made its name is the shrimp or langostinos (large prawns) cooked "Papi style," in a garlic, butter and herb sauce that you will want bread for. Other favorites mentioned by diners include ceviche, tuna tartare, lobster, grilled fish and a garlic shrimp paella. For dessert, the banana brûlée has a following. It is a place to share plates, order another round and stay a while.

It is popular, and that brings trade-offs. Recent reviews from late 2025 and early 2026 are mixed: many diners call the food excellent and the setting the best in town, while others report long waits, forgotten orders and inconsistent service on busy nights. Going early in the evening, or on a weeknight, usually means a smoother experience. Reservations are a good idea in high season, from December to April.

Price-wise, it is not cheap by Dominican standards, with seafood mains priced well above a local comedor (casual eatery). Seafood is often priced by size or weight, so ask before ordering. Payment has been limited to cash or Mastercard according to several reports, so bring cash or check when you book.

Hours have been listed as 11am to 11pm on Sunday and Tuesday to Friday, and 1pm to 11pm on Saturday, with Monday closed. Confirm before you go, since schedules change seasonally.

Getting there: it is on the beach in the center of Cabarete, a short walk from most hotels in town. From Kite Beach it is a short taxi ride or a long walk along the sand. From Sosúa, allow about 20 minutes by taxi.

Who it is best for: couples, groups of friends and seafood lovers who want the classic Cabarete dinner on the sand. Who it is not for: diners in a hurry, travelers on a tight budget, or anyone who wants quiet and fast, polished service on a busy night.
