La Piazzetta (Altos de Chavón)

Award-winning Italian dinners in the stone lanes of Altos de Chavón, inside Casa de Campo

La Piazzetta (Altos de Chavón)

About La Piazzetta (Altos de Chavón)

La Piazzetta is the Italian restaurant in Altos de Chavón, the stone village on the cliff above the Chavón River inside Casa de Campo. Casa de Campo describes it as a rustic Italian trattoria, and in 2026 it was named the Dominican Republic's Best Hotel Restaurant at the World Culinary Awards. If you are planning one special dinner in the La Romana area, this is the obvious candidate.

The setting does a lot of the work. Tables sit among the coral-stone walls and wrought-iron lamps of the village, and the walk through the cobbled lanes before or after dinner is part of the evening. The cooking is classic trattoria style, built around pasta and Italian seafood and meat mains, and Casa de Campo's dining guide mentions a prix-fixe menu alongside the regular menu. Ask about the wine list and any daily specials when you book.

Prices are at the top end for the region. Expect resort fine-dining prices, well above what you will pay in Bayahíbe village, and confirm the current prix-fixe price when you book. Older listings ask men to wear a collared shirt and long trousers at dinner; treat that as the safe standard and leave beachwear at the hotel.

Hours: Casa de Campo's own dining guide, updated in September 2026, lists La Piazzetta as open for dinner from Thursday to Sunday. Older listings showed dinner every night and a seasonal lunch, so check the current days and times with the resort when you reserve. Reservations are strongly recommended, especially from December to April and on holiday weekends.

Getting there: Casa de Campo guests reach Altos de Chavón by resort shuttle, golf cart or car in a few minutes. Non-guests should book first and mention the reservation at the gate, as evening access to the village for visitors without a booking has been limited. From Bayahíbe and Dominicus it is about 20 to 30 minutes by car; from Punta Cana, plan on around 1.5 hours each way, which makes it a long trip for one meal.

Pair it with sunset at the village lookout over the river, or an afternoon at Minitas Beach if you are staying at the resort.

Best for: anniversaries, honeymoons, proposals and anyone who wants the most atmospheric dinner in the region. Not for: travelers on a budget, families with restless small children, or anyone wanting a casual seafood meal; for that, go to Restaurante Típico La Bahía in Bayahíbe or La Casita at the marina.
